GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Assistant City Attorney is responsible for the prosecution of all misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor crimes and civil infractions filed in the Centralia Municipal Court and for representing the interests of the City in civil litigation, administrative hearings, and other adjudicative proceedings. The Assistant City Attorney also assists with contract review, public records requests, legal document drafting, and legal research. The Assistant City Attorney must exhibit exceptional attention to detail, thorough legal research skills, strong victim advocacy abilities, and sound independent judgment under limited supervision. This
role requires the initiative to proactively identify legal, operational, and procedural improvements that support the office’s effectiveness and efficiency.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Washington and a member in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association.
- One or more years of experience litigating criminal or civil cases.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be able to pass:
- Background check processes including a criminal history check and reference checks.
- Education verification.
- Must possess a valid Washington state driver’s license at time of hire OR must obtain within 30 days from date of hire, and must have a driving record that is acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
