Recruitment Number 25-175TO, Attorney (Legal Research) - Intermediate Court of Appeals, SR-28D ($7,351 per month) to SR-28L ($10,061 per month)*, Honolulu, Oahu.
*Starting salary may be at a rate between the minimum to maximum salary range listed above, based on qualifications.
This position is located in the Courts of Appeal, Intermediate Court of Appeals. This position is responsible for: 1) screening appeals upon completion of briefing; preparing legal memoranda, with special attention to jurisdictional and procedural issues; 2) processing motions or petitions, and recommending their disposition; 3) processing cases or classes of cases and recommending their disposition; and 4) doing other projects related to the Intermediate Court Appeal's work.

Requirements
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of law.
Selective Certification Requirement:
(A) At least two (2) years of experience in legal research, writing or appearing in appellate or trial court cases or appearing in appeals in administrative agencies;
Or
(B) At least one (1) year of experience as a law clerk or staff attorney in federal or state appellate courts or in federal or state appellate administrative agencies.
The experience must include actual legal research and the writing of briefs or legal research memoranda.
Upon request, for purposes of assessing the quantity and quality of the experience in either alternative (A) or (B) above, the applicant will be required to provide a list of appeals or other court or administrative cases (with case names and numbers) in which the attorney appeared as counsel or which the attorney prepared legal research memoranda or briefs. A writing sample will be required from each applicant.
License Requirement: Applicants must possess a valid license to practice law in all courts of the State of Hawaii. Applicants who have a current and INACTIVE license may apply, however, verification of current and ACTIVE license is required upon selection.
